How Does Debt Collection Work From The Collector’s Perspective?

Whether the collector works independently, for an agency, or is an attorney, they are, in effect, a middleman between creditor and debtor. When a debtor has exceeded the payment deadline beyond the 60-day threshold, a debt collector is hired by the creditor to recover the unpaid debt. The debt collector earns a percentage between 25% to 50% of the retrieved debt. A debt is considered to be any amount of money that a debtor contractually lent by a creditor. This includes credit cards, vehicle loans, student loans, cell phone bills (etc).

Marcadis Singer, PA is a creditors’ rights law firm, not a debt collection agency.  Often, if you have heard from us, that means that collections efforts from a debt collection agency have failed, and your account has been escalated to our law offices.

Like agencies in different sectors, debt collection firms specialize in certain type/s of debt.

For instance, an agency may solely focus on unpaid debt cases that are under two years old and for payments of $200 minimum. More distinguished agencies will tailor their debt collection procedure according to the state-specific statute of limitations.

Sometimes, to recover some of a debt total, a collection agency will negotiate with the debtor to meet a settlement figure. These debts are considered difficult to collect. Such cases may be referred to lawyers, who file against customers refusing to repay a debt.
