Debt Collection Myths – Debt Creditors Must Stop Calling If You Tell Them To

This falls under “sort of, but not really”.  When you verbally tell debt creditors to stop calling you, it puts no obligation on the creditors to stop whatsoever, unless.

  1. You tell them not to call you at work, your employer forbids you receiving these pones calls.
  2. If you tell them it is an inconvenient time, they will begin to call you at a different time.

In order to have debt creditors stop calling you (at least legally) you must send a written request telling them to stop calling all together.   If you do not, the creditor is not legally required to honor your verbal request under most circumstances.
