Our next Florida Governor could have the ability to pack the Florida Supreme court if a constitutional amendment is approved today by the House of Representatives. This leaves open a lot of questions about the power of an outgoing governor to influence the new court make up.
This will need to be approved by voters in November. The outgoing governor would have the ability to appoint replacement judges whose term expires in parallel with the governor. That would impact 3 of out 7 judges right now.
So, should an outgoing governor be able to appoint almost half of the Supreme court on his way out of the mansion?
The constitution is unclear. Think about it.. This will be on your ballots in November.
