Gil Singer

Gil Singer has been one of the leaders in Tampa in terms of his volunteer efforts, community service and government service. Gil is a 35 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Tampa and served as its President in 1996-1997. Under Gil’s leadership that year, the Club sold over 22,000 chicken dinners at its annual barbeque. The event raised over $100,000, which went back into the community the next year in the form of college scholarships to disadvantaged youth, wheelchair ramps for disabled children and adults, feeding the elderly at Thanksgiving and Easter and sponsoring a Christmas Party for 156 of the neediest children in the Hillsborough County, FL. Gil has served on many charitable boards and institutions and is a long time board member of Kid’s Charity of Tampa Bay, which raises several hundred thousand dollars per year to support “A Kid’s Place”, which is an emergency children’s shelter. The mission of the organization is to keep family members together when they are taken from their home as a result of abuse, neglect or abandonment by their parents. It is a nationwide model for foster care that focuses on the needs and best interests of children and families.

Gil’s government service includes a 12 year stint on the Florida Commission for Human Relations, including 2 years as it’s chair. The FCHR is charged with enforcing the State of Florida Civil Rights Act and serves both the community at large and businesses in dealing with employment, housing and discrimination issues statewide. Gil also serves on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 13th Judicial Circuit, which recommends judicial candidates to the Governor of Florida. Gil has also served a term on the Citizens Advisory Board for the Hillsborough County Commission.
