Hilcorp Energy Co, a company based in Houston, is a privately held oil and gas exploration and production company. Earlier this year, they reached their five year goals, and as a reward, Hilcorp employees bonuses of $100,00 were handed out.
This bonuses were distributed based off of service time in the past 5 years, however, all employees, despite job title or job level, were eligible to receive the bonuses.
Hilcorp’s goals were to double the production rate of oilfield, oil and gas reserves, and equity value, all in the span of 5 years. They started accomplishing these goals in the spring, making all of them met by the end of 2015.
In previous years, employees have earned similar awards at Hilcorp. In 2010, a $50,000 car or $35,00 in cash were rewarded for hitting prior 5 year goals. These actions helped Hilcorp receive the name “Best Workplace for Diversity,” according to Fortune Magazine, in 2015. In the past summer, Fortune gave them another name- “Best Workplace for Millennials,” and ranked them number 20 on their “Best Companies to Work For” list.
Another energy company, Paragon Offshore PLC seems to mimicking Hilcorp’s actions, by offering an extra year’s worth of salary to their top exclusives just for staying with the company through the year.
