2016 is shaping up to look like a busier than usual hurricane season according to our friends at the weather channel.
All models project a more active season than average. Here in Tampa Bay, we have not seen a direct hurricane hit for decades, and have been lulled into a false sense of security. Marcadis Singer, PA travels the state, and our friends in South Florida seem to get hit frequently, we could learn a few lessons from those that deal with these massive tropical storms on a regular basis.
HAVE A PLAN, make the plan NOW before a storm, not as you hear the storm is approaching.
Have Money, Gas, and Food on hand. If the power goes out, your credit cards are useless, your ATM’s won’t work, whatever stores are open, will likely be cash only. Gas stations cannot pump gas if there is no power.
Have Water on hand, both for drinking and sanitation. Bottled water is an absolute, but a lot of people forget that toilets may not flush, and water service might not get restored. As the storm approaches, fill your sinks and bathtubs with water so that you have water to flush with.
There is a great FICTIONAL video to help you prepare for an oncoming storm. We recommend all of our Florida clients, friends, family, and debtors watch it. Be smart, be safe, be prepared… and then, relax and enjoy Florida, knowing you are ready should a storm approach..
